The Great Outdoors!

June is National Great Outdoors Month! In recognition, we are reminded to explore our nation’s abundant wildlife refuges, parks, and natural beauty. Depending on where you live, sometimes reaching nature is more difficult. Whether you like to walk or bike on trails, kayak on Lake Wylie or Lake Norman, or pitch a tent in the Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina has a lot to offer.

Here is a list of fun things you can do this summer to celebrate National Great Outdoors Month:

1.      Hiking – There are many places to go hiking around the greater Charlotte area including Crowder’s Mountain, South Mountain State Park, King’s Mountain and Catawba Falls.

2.      Swimming – Both Lake Norman and Lake Wylie offer opportunities for people to bring or rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Carrigan Farms has a rock quarry, a natural spring fed body of water perfect for swimming.

3.      Biking & Running– Check out our local greenways such as Little Sugar Creek Greenway and Four Mile Creek Greenway that offer miles of trails to bike, run or just walk with a friend. If you are looking for a challenge to aim for, check out the Around the Crown 10k hosted in Charlotte! You may even run past a Modern Legal team member during the race.

4.      Want a one-stop shop for all? The U.S. National White Water Center has opportunities for all the above and even includes zip lining, a rope course and concerts during the summer.

5.      Camping – Some beautiful places to take the family on an annual camping trip include Pisgah National Forest, Linville Falls Campground, and Uwharrie National Forest.

6.      Sports fans listen up! You can enjoy the outdoor by purchasing a ticket to a Knight’s game or rooting for the Panthers at their first scheduled home game on August 21st.

7.      Not a nature person but like being outdoors? Visit any of Charlotte’s breweries, outdoor patios, or local farmer’s markets to enjoy some fresh air.

Especially as we progress through this pandemic, take time this summer to pursue the beauty and majesty of the big skies and open spaces that the outdoors has to offer. Such adventure may prove more helpful than you may realize for both your physical and mental well-being.
