The month of April is dedicated to shedding light on two very important issues that unfortunately remain prevalent in our society – sexual assault and child abuse. National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month serve as important reminders of the critical need for education, prevention, and support for victims.
Sexual assault and child abuse are crimes that have lasting and devastating effects on individuals and families. In raising awareness, we can break the silence and stigma that often surrounds these issues, and empower individuals to speak out against abuse and to seek help. By promoting healthy relationships, consent, and bystander intervention, we can work towards creating a society where sexual assault and child abuse are no longer tolerated or ignored.
It is vital for us to support organizations and resources that provide services to survivors of sexual assault and child abuse. Whether through volunteering, donating, or advocating for policy changes, we can all play a role in supporting those who have been affected.
If you are interested in getting involved, the following is a non-exhaustive list of organizations that support sexual assault and child abuse survivors and spread awareness:
- Safe Alliance (Mecklenburg County, North Carolina)
- Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center (Mecklenburg County, North Carolina)
- Turning Point NC (Union County, North Carolina)
- Safe Passage (York County, South Carolina)
- North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault
- Zero Abuse Project
- Prevent Child Abuse America
As we observe National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, let us come together to stand in solidarity with survivors. Through educating ourselves and others about the warning signs of abuse and creating spaces for survivors to come forward and seek support, we can help make our communities a safer place.
If you or somebody you know is a victim of sexual assault or child abuse, there are resources, and our team at Modern Legal is here to help.
