This time of year, can be a very busy one; but this time also serves as a reminder to reflect on being thankful. I have learned over the years that being thankful is a state of mind. You do not have to have it all together to be thankful. We are all guilty of dreaming up these perfect holidays (myself included) with a turkey in the oven, children playing on the floor, and football on television. Often, it is just not that simple.

But instead of dwelling on dreamed-up television ads of the perfect family meal, this year I am focusing on the good things. For myself personally, I am extremely thankful for three things this year: my health, my family, and new chapters.

First, I am so thankful for my health and well-being. The ability to move my body is a gift that many people are not fortunate to have. So even on the days where I do not want to wake-up early to work out (especially after a sleepless night with the baby), I remind myself that I have an opportunity to do something many people wish they could do which is a blessing. After being in the hospital earlier this year, the ability to even walk outside is something to be thankful for.

Secondly, I am thankful for my family. I have a very small family, as my grandparents, my aunts, and uncles are all deceased. However, this year we were blessed to add another baby to our family. Having one extra person at the “Thanksgiving table” was such a joy.

Finally, I am so thankful for new chapters in my life; the journey of motherhood and connecting back to old roots. Motherhood is such a unique experience and a process of so much learning. It is an exciting chapter to continue. Additionally, I have been fortunate this year to visit places I had not been since my childhood. It is an exceptionally rewarding experience to bring my children to these places that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Whatever you are thankful for this year, remember to keep “thankful” as a state of mind. We ALL have something to be thankful for and I encourage you to reflect on that this holiday season. Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday season!
